48 Hour Armed and Unarmed Security Guard Course

ARMED COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

You must be at least 21 years old
United States citizen
Valid social security number
FOID
No felony convictions or any crime involving the illegal use of weapons
Successfully pass a criminal background check
Fingerprinting
Illinois driver’s license
Successfully complete classroom training, firearms training and pass a written exam.

All security guards must complete a state-approved 20-hour basic training course within 30 days of employment, with additional ongoing training.

Must meet all unarmed requirements plus:
20-hour firearms training course approved by IDFPR.
Training covers shooting stance, firearm handling, Illinois concealed carry laws, safe storage, and maintenance
Completion of a range qualification test to demonstrate proficiency

Training Requirements

Unarmed Security Guards must be 18 years of age or older.
20-hour basic security training course from an IDFPR-approved provider, completed within 30 days of employment.
Course topics include:
Legal foundations (criminal, civil, and constitutional law)
Patrol techniques and observation skills
Access control and report writing
Emergency response, including basic first aid and CPR
Professional conduct, ethics, communication, and de-escalation techniques.
Arrest procedures.
